Random Sauces From All Around The World

Social Engineering

Have you ever heard of it? Engineering usually sounds so hard; things such as electrical, computer, oil, mining, etc. But this is social. Hm…

According to Wikipedia:

Social engineering is commonly understood to mean the art of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. While it is similar to a confidence trick or simple fraud, the term typically applies to trickery or deception for the purpose of information gathering, fraud, or computer system access; in most cases the attacker never comes face-to-face with the victims.

So I was introduced to this thing one or two weeks ago in Information Security class, where the project was about collecting confidential information – like an actress’ phone number 🙂 Well, I think this thing is mostly about sweet talking and persuading people with lies and big promises.

Well yeah, the point is you can be one of the target 😦 So be careful.
